Curbo Privacy Policy

Curbo ("we", "us", "our") is operated by Florian Muller (ABN 74379186985), a sole trader based in Australia. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use the Curbo mobile app (the "App").

We are committed to handling your information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

1. Who can use Curbo

You must be at least 18 years old to create a Curbo account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that we have collected information from someone under 18, we will delete it.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us directly:

• Account details: email address, password (stored securely and never visible to us in plain text), display name, first and last name, phone number.
• Profile information: a profile photo (optional), your general locality/pickup area.
• Listings: item titles, descriptions, categories, condition, pickup method, photos, and the precise pickup location you choose on the map.
• Messages: the content of messages you send to other users when arranging a pickup.
• Reviews and reports: ratings, written reviews, and any reports you submit about another user or listing.

Information collected automatically:

• Location data: with your permission, we access your device's precise location to show you nearby items on the map and to calculate distances. You can decline location access, though some features won't work properly without it.
• Photos and camera: with your permission, we access your camera or photo library only when you choose to add a photo to a listing or your profile.
• Basic device and usage information: such as app version and general diagnostic information, used only to keep the App running reliably.

Information from third parties: if you sign in using Google or Apple, we receive your name and email address from that provider to create and manage your account. We never receive your Google or Apple password.

3. How we use your information

We use your information to create and manage your account, show you free items near you, enable messaging between givers and collectors, calculate distances and pickup locations, send account-related emails, maintain trust and safety, and improve the App.

We do not sell your personal information to anyone, and we do not use it for advertising.

4. Who we share your information with

• Other users: your display name is shown in an abbreviated form (e.g. "Florian M.") on your listings and reviews. Your exact pickup location is only shared once you've agreed to a pickup via chat.
• Service providers: Supabase (database, authentication, and file storage), Resend (transactional email), Google and Apple (sign-in services).
• Legal requirements: we may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of our users.

Where your data is stored

Your data is stored and processed on servers operated by our hosting provider, currently located in Japan (Asia-Pacific region). By using Curbo, you consent to this overseas storage, consistent with Australian Privacy Principle 8.

5. Data security

We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information, including encrypted storage of passwords and secure transmission of data. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to access, correct, and delete the personal information we hold about you. You can update most of your information directly in the App under Profile → Edit Profile. To request a full copy of your data or to delete your account entirely, contact us at support@curbo.au.

7. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymise your personal information within a reasonable time, except where we are required to retain certain records by law.

8. Children's privacy

Curbo is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll let you know via the App or by email.
